KOTA KINABALU: The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation and Sabah State Education and Islamic Affairs Exco, Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, will conduct a further visit to conduct a detailed inspection of two blocks of buildings at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Darau Kota Kinabalu which are alleged to be dilapidated and not strong enough to carry out learning activities there.

This follows a recent Sabah Media report that parents and teachers at the school are concerned about the safety of children studying at the school due to the dilapidated condition of the building's structure, such as rotten floors and leaky ceilings, and are appealing to the authorities to come forward to resolve the problem as soon as possible.

Also of concern is the flash flooding that often occurs at the school because the drainage system around the school area has not been properly maintained since 2017.

In relation to this, Mohd Arifin said that he was very concerned and aware of the problems faced by SK Darau.

“"God willing, I, the assistant minister and the Sabah Education Director will personally visit SK Darau and the Darau State Religious School (SAN). The three of us will visit the schools this month," he said.

He said this when met by reporters after the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation's Mandate and Presentation of Educational Aid ceremony held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here, today.
